Copenhagen ceramics intensive

Since starting my ceramics learning I’ve wanted to test out throwing on the wheel ...

I wasn’t sure exactly how I wanted to apply it to the work I had been making, but I thought it would be worth the effort to invest in taking a week to extend my knowledge and cover the very basics. I made my way to Denmark to do a 5-day summer workshop with a professional ceramicist to see what I could discover.

Danish design has always interested me, the culture around it - the Bauhaus influence, its functionalism and simplicity. Immersing in a city where design is a focus was such an incredible experience and visits to the Danish Design Museum, Statens Museum for Kunst and Nikolaj Copenhagen Contemporary Art Centre were all critical in shaping how I see and understand ceramics within a contemporary international environment.

Also, as always, I met so many incredible people from all around the world. All for the other students each had such interesting careers and stories, it was an amazing time for making new connections, discovering new people and immersing in learning.
